Field Crews: Text the Punch Item and Get Back to the Work

Field crews lose time when every update means opening an app, finding a login, or resending a photo in five threads. The Field App asks you to text the job instead. A superintendent or project manager sees the task. You do not have to install software or remember a password to report what is done.

The snag

The update tool is slower than the work.

You finish the room, then spend the break fighting a password or scrolling a group text to see which photo the office wanted. The note gets skipped. The punch item stays open.

  • Text is the tool the crew already has open.
  • A photo on one personal phone is easy to lose.
  • This page does not promise the office will answer instantly.
What you can do here

Text what changed, and where.

The Field App is built so you do not download an app or sign in. Say the room, the trade, and whether the item is done. The Field App page also lists live translation when the crew and the office do not share a first language.

  • One text to the job number beats five group threads.
  • A "done" with no photo is still easy to argue about later.
  • Follow the superintendent’s rule for what is allowed in a text.
What you should not assume

A text is not always a change order.

Sending a note does not by itself approve extra work, a new date, or a safety exception. If the work changed, wait for the superintendent or project manager to say so in plain words.

  • Ask which number is the job number.
  • Stop texting a personal phone if the GC says to use the job number.
  • Message and data rates may apply. The SMS policy says how to opt out.

Questions

Do I need a new password?

No. The Field App page says there is no login. You text the job. Your own phone’s texting plan still applies.

What if I do not read English first?

The Field App page lists built-in language translation so GCs, subs, and clients can read the same message. Ask your superintendent which languages are turned on for that job.

How do I stop job texts?

The site says you can reply STOP to opt out. Read the SMS policy for the full rules. Message and data rates may apply.
